FATAL DOUBT

By: Cathy E.

I'm tired of this game
I really am
I thought we both realized
It's time to stop

A letter from a girl
That I knew you wrote
Sent shadows of doubt
Haunting me

Why?

Are you not as sure
As you said you were
Or maybe
It's another game

I don't know what to think anymore
My mind is full of doubt
Enough to leave you right here, right now
Enough to say Goodbye

If you think you'll get another turn
I'm sorry to say you won't
I've had enough of pain, you see
I don't need any more

My heart you've coaxed to open up
The same heart that held the fear
A fragile heart you've always known
The slightest doubt can close

Tonight I'll put away the stone
That used to adorn my neck
In a velvet box it will lay to rest
And along with it, my heart.
