My First Love
by MaliaMonique Rodriguez
My very distant relationship is with my boyfriend and soon-to-be husband. We have been dating for about 3 years and he asked me to marry him in an email that he sent me while he was away at sea.
The reason for our separation is that his ship moved to Washington and since, we haven't gotten married. I could not go with him at the time, therefore he is going to come home in February and we are going to get married... finally! Being separated shouldn't be a problem anymore. As long as we get married, I can move to where he is at and we can be reunited again. The problem is that I am not 18 so my mom needs to sign the consent form and she is willing to do that so we can be together.
I have been able to cope with our distance because I know we are getting married. The LovePoetry poem that has helped me is Did you know? by Meghan Ann Whitlock.
The two of us talk to each other every day, even if it's just for a minute. It's better than not talking to him at all. If we don't get to get married before I'm 18, we plan on vistiting each other back and forth. He is my first love and spending 3 years out of my life is a lot of time together. We've been together since I was 15 and he was 18, so I know that marrying him is worthwhile.
People may say that getting married at a young age is a bad thing, but have they really experienced it themselves? Everyone is different and not all guys are the same. If there were no bumps in life, there would be nothing to get over, and some mistakes are too fun to only make once. You never know until you try, it may be that he's your Mr. Right and maybe he's not, but at least give it a try... there's always something called a divorce.
