the clutter that surrounds me protection
ashes wrappers wires hold in affection
pushing my hands on the clock
my reliable love in the drawer with the socks

out of my head these things
eyes half closed discover wings
understand sometimes it's not a problem
all this addiction silent spiral fallen

the tries with women i've had before
now i'm hiding sedated loneliness whore
inside here it's bitter stagnant cold air
for awhile i had someone who shared

but she dropped away absolutely no warning
like she swore she wouldn't so many mornings
after lying with perfection all through the night
never letting her love leave even my sight

move on, grow, connect, lose, suppose i must
this me she extracted is lost without trust
there is no blame to place on her
behind her wall is just as unsure

but that pristine one will be the one to smother
any chance of me connecting true to another
from now all of myself i'll hold far in
and my love will always belong to maren
