REFLECTION
by ROSA  SAINATO

PIERCING THROUGH ME,
THOSE BEAUTIFUL EYES, SO BRIGHT, SO FULL.
I SEE MYSELF IN THE REFLECTION.
I CAN SEE IMAGES OF THE PAST,
THE THRILL OF THE FIRST KISS,
THE FIRST TOUCH,
EVERY MOMENT SPENT TOGETHER.
AND I SMILE, REMEMBERING THE WAY WE CAME TO BE.
IN THOSE EYES I SEE A LITTLE BOY,
AFRAID TO BE A MAN.
I SMILE AT HIM AS HE LOOKS UP AT ME.
I TAKE HIM IN MY ARMS AND I KISS HIM LIGHTLY.
THIS BEAUTIFUL BOY FEARS HIMSELF,
FEARS WHAT HE WILL BECOME.
BUT IN THOSE EYES, I SEE ALL HIS STRENGTH,
ALL HIS LOVE, ALL THE BEAUTY THAT HE IS,
AND ALL THE GREATNESS HE WILL ACHIEVE.
I CLOSE MY EYES ONLY FOR A MOMENT,
AND THAT LITTLE BOY DISAPPEARS BEHIND THOSE EYES,
AND THE MAN THAT HE HAS COME TO BE,
THE MAN THAT I WILL LOVE AND STAND BY,
FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE,
SMILES AT ME
AND I SMILE BACK.
