I Like It Best
by Sara Tae-Ann Rettus
I like it best when you're close to me
When we're touching; creating a swelter
And a synergy-beat that whispers.
I like it when you're away
And I can sink into a pleasure dream of you
Playing guitar on the edge of the bed
While outside rain smacks percussion.
I like it when we're alone
Usurping breath from your mouth
I look at the lines on your face
Studying until they are so broken
That you no longer seem what I thought
But are better.
I like it best when you're close to me.
Unless you are merely near.
