Good Riddance
by Rebecca Walkins Randle

I was always cold.
The river was too wide.
He was always standing
On the other side.

The sky was much too dark.
The moon, she was in hiding.
It never did occur to me--
I was the only one abiding.

The sun was never bright.
The birds were never singing.
And yet, somehow I basked
In the grief that he was bringing.

It mattered not, the season.
It mattered not, the day.
It was his will to hurt me.
He always found a way.

And now my heart believes
What before it could not see.
He never really cared,
He had no love for me.

I hear the best revenge is living well
But I cannot see how.
To me the best revenge
Is that he's HER problem now!
