Melted Roses
by Michael David Coffey

Melted roses on a marble top
Red wax lava, frozen
 like played petals, fragrant
A rose scented candle burning,
 in flickering incandescence
Fragrant flame dancing
 in the warm night air
Lighting the room in comfort
 and permeating the breeze

Sweet fragrant night air into
 the delicate gray pastel dawn
A gentle breathe, blowing,
 to quench the flaming rose
And waxen petals, soft, lay
on the cool marble dresser top
Melted roses, remembrance
