Shattered glass

One gimps into the pieces 
Reveals a tattered and broken image
A teary eye
A jagged ear
A down turned smile 
A shattered heart

You pick up the pieces 
And try to repair 
What appears to be ultimate and utter despair
The jagged edges cut so deep
Blood runs now onto the broken heap
You drop the shards and walk away
And realize the lost cause with ultimate dismay

This glass Heart, this tearing eye, and saddened smile 
Were only your pieces for a brief while
You smash the rest till there is no more 
And leave the dust upon the floor

The winds pick up and blow the dust
The memories are all that remains... and rust 
With time those, too, will fade 
This heart, this smile, that you made
