Remember It This Way

By: Miriam M. Wynn

If I could have pummeled you with my fists
I would have,
To let you know I didn't want this anymore--
Didn't want you . . .

But we've come this far,
We've learned so much,
And I can't bring myself
To deny you
Gentleness--

If I told you, while sleeping,
That I loved you--
If I whispered these words while dozing--
Forgive me,
But they're true--

But I don't think such love
Can withstand this
Cursed two--

Of us--

So let me go--
Let us float away
From each other,
As if we never met,
As if we never loved . . .

And I will hold you close to my heart
And I'll never forget
What you've given to me--

I shall hold you close
In the dark--
Never will forget,
Always will remember in my dreams
You, my love . . .

Forgive me for this
Emptiness
I have made--

Please allow me to explain--
I don't ever want to hurt you--
Not that way . . .

Sometimes a little pain is better
Than true
Heartbreak--

So let me take you in my arms now,
Let me kiss you . . .
Let me close those lovely eyes
With butterfly kisses;

Let me hold you close to me
To remember--
Imprint you on my memory . . .

Say good-bye now--
Darling,
I cannot believe it's going to be over,
But it is--

All for the best, they say,
And now we must turn away--
Darling, let me kiss you,
Let me remember you--

My love,
I will remember you this
Way . . .
