Discovery

By: Brandon Joseph LeBlanc

It happens again,
And again I am unable to control it.
Its power is overwhelming,
Taking over when I'm least aware.
She's unaccountable for my heart,
For she has no idea the effect she has on me.
Every harmless word spoken forth from her lips
Lingers with me, beckoning more emotions.
I'm drawn to her for who she is:
The type of person you just crave to find,
Waking up next to her, finding comfort in her presence.
Searching her eyes and finding no fear,
I see a hidden reserve behind them,
A pool of eternal knowledge, each wave echoing past moments,
Every ripple building the landscape anew.
There's no hope in taming the wilderness,
But if I could just, for one brief moment,
Feel the breakers wash over me,
To understand why she is who she is,
To seek out what draws me to her.
Yet before all mysteries are laid to rest,
I am forced to surrender and realize
That as I look around, it's become too much,
The knowledge too sacred.
But even ere I began, I knew I was doomed.
I open my own pool of memories
In hope that she'll understand a little of me
Before I drown.
