I Wonder

By: Michael James

I wonder while I wander
Through the hills and over yonder
Passing fields of wheat and rye
Underneath a threatening sky
To the Valley of the souls
Where my ashen dreams and goals
Now continually reminding
Of the path forever winding
Scanning chambers of my mind
Searching endlessly to find
Peace and calm within my soul
Replacing ash and blackened coal

As I wander while I wonder
I hear distant rumbling thunder
Fearing soon a storm will rain
Within this saddened heart of pain
Remnants of a former life
With constant bitterness and strife
Ever haunting with their taunting
Fearing heartache ever daunting

Through the river of my dreams
Emotion overflowing streams
Clamber over slippery stones
Feeling lonely threshold zones
Howling winds of time abound
Swirling leaves upon the ground
Chills my soul through to the core
Feelings I can take no more

What is this I see ahead?
Perhaps the signs I have misread
For right before me as I'm nearing
Greener pastures in the clearing
Thoughts are slowly now returning
To my former years of yearning
True love yet have I to discover
Warm and gentle faithful lover
