A Gift I Possess

By: Cathy Ann Fusco

I can’t do math that well
And I have two left feet
Can’t play sports to win
Won’t see me rollerblading down the street

Sure there are some things I’m good at
They make me laugh even if they don’t come in handy
Getting me to smile doesn’t take much
It’s like taking that proverbial baby’s candy

But ask me what I like to do
Ask me what makes my day
Ask me what I think of to ease my mind
Ask me these things and I’ll say:

Well there’s this guy
I met him through a friend of mine
I don’t know why
But he loves me enough to listen to me whine

I have a gift
More precious than anything wrapped with a bow
It’s a gift I can’t share
Never felt something like this, I know
But nothing could compare
To the rush I get
When he holds my hand
The way he always understands
How much we have in common
The way he reads me like a book
How much he says with just a look
He says the things I want to hear
So sweet it almost brings a tear
When he sings I hang on every word
He puts up with me when I’m being absurd
Holding him I feel so blessed
Of all the moments I share with him, those are the best
There’s no better gift in this world
No better gift for this complicated girl
Than the simple, pure love
Of a guy that has to have been sent from above
The very thought of him and a smile breaks on my face
People have to nudge me back to earth after a journey through space
Thinking about him, missing him
I long to be kissing him
Music plays for our ears only
Now we have each other, we’re never lonely
He took away all the bad
Makes me happier than I ever thought I could be
I hope he knows how much I love him
I’ll try everything I can think of in hopes he’ll see
Since I’ve known him the tears have been less and less
His love is a gift I possess
