The Bolt

By: Sabrina Ann Chilson

As the cold rain drops
Hit the ground
I shiver-
Gust of wind-
Thunder in the distance strains-
The bolt hits-
I jolt
And lay down slowly
As my eyes close.
I realize my life was gone before me.
Around me: Trees
In the watery remains I lay
Never to be found.

Mother crys-
Father sighs-
Friends bid good bye-
But, still you are not hurt.
Inside you feel regret
and wish it never true...
But it is.
She died today
The paper read
"Bolt of lightening struck her head."

And then you cry...
Inside you're slowly dying,
Outside you're only crying.
Why did she have to go?
You ask but never find an answer;
Then one day you stray to the woods
To where she took to her last breath.
You sit and think of how she felt
And you realize what she meant to you.
Why didn't I realize and tell her before-
For now she'll never know...
