Turning Away

By: Stacey Kelly

As you walked by me,
I don't know if you realized
but you brushed me.

Not even noticing me
you turned away.
Without the slightest bit of manners
you turned away.

I said "hello" to you yesterday
in hopes you might recognize me,
but instead of returning the gesture
you looked right through me.

I thought of you last night
as my grandfather died.
Because losing him
makes the hurt of not having you subside.

If only you'd look at me
instead of turning away.
Maybe then we could be.
