In the evening light
by Michael David Coffey

A time of perfect
    calm
Still light reflecting
    on an estuary
Purple shadows
    surrounding my presence
As I dream of
    being close-
    to you

A time of perception
    in the brightness
    of a fading day
A last kiss of the
      sun
Night, in the splendor
    of deep purple
    descending
And I think of you

Here, alone, but
    complete
    in love
Shadows closing in
    I quietly long for
    a passionate night
My mind taken up
    with thoughts
    of you

Silvered reflections
    on the water
As I gaze out
    beyond the horizon
Seeing you there
    just beyond
    my reach
And reaching out
    Stretching my mind
    I feel your nearness
    Love speaks that
    way
In the evening light
