One Last Dance
by   Tanja Sarmiento

Your smile use to be mine.
Your loving gaze use to always be on me.
The three words you spoke…
Were always murmured into my ear.

You use to hold me in your arms.
You use to hold my hand as we walked in the park.
We use to dance when it would rain
We use to be 'us.'

But now, you’re no longer mine…
You weren’t mine to begin with.
We were just 'in love,'
But your love for me has flickered away.

Now you smile for her.
Now you look at her with love in your eyes.
Now you tell her…
You love her.

Like every good song, they all must come to an end.
I’ll miss the time I spent with you.
My memories with you will always be cherished
My love for you will never die.

Even though this dance has come to an end
Can I have just one last dance with you,
In the rain,
Before I let you go?

And as we dance,
Can I hold you close for one last time?
Can I tell you I love you?
Can I pretend that we are still 'us?'

And as we share one final dance,
I’ll let you know that I am here
Whenever you wish
For another dance…

...another chance at love.
