Someone Like Me
by Renata Paperini
Her smile hides her pain,
her laugh hides her tears.
She dares not talk of how she feels
from fear that someone will love her
for who she is.
Her eyes cannot hide the disappointments
she keeps to herself, hiding;
afraid to unmask her true self.
Shadowing in the darkness of her fears,
she waits, she hopes, she dreams...
Yet, she will not act.
She speaks kindly of others
yet, she will not speak of herself.
She hurts all those who love her.
One day her front will fade and she will realize--
Love doesn't have to hurt....
