Three Deadly Words
by   Libby

Those three deadly words
"I love you"
are an invitation
to vulnerability.
A plea to have pain
flood my heart

I don't like the feeling
that everything I do,
everything I say
makes no difference.
Knowing
no matter
how high, or drunk
I am,
as my eyelids slip shut
I will still depend on you
when the morning comes.

Not being in control
is one of my constant nightmares.
Knowing that one smile,
one no-smile
can make me go from
high to low.

I don't understand
why someone like me
needs someone like you,
but obviously
my comprehension of the matter
makes no difference
to love.
