There Was A Time
by James  Walters

There was a time,
Not long ago,
When smiles were not so rare,
When laughter rose like ponies
On lilting carousels.
When tomorrow promised wonders
And worries were as few
As flowers in a desert;
As faults within a jewel.
There was a time,
Not long ago,
When love was not so rare,
When music swirled and echoed
Each time a kiss was shared;
When sable evenings shimmered
With pledges that were made.
Not long ago,
There was a time
That won't return again.
