Alone Again
by Linda  Santiago

Once again,
like so many times before;
I sit alone in my apartment
waiting for the phone to ring.
And when it does,
It is usually just a girl friend
wanting to know if he called.

I want to lie
and say ... 'Yes',
pretending you are still my man.
But the words get lost in my throat
And I say... 'NO.'
So I lay in my bed
And daydream about the way things
used to be between us.
Holding hands...
Kissing each other passionately
until we were one.

But now my days are long.
And the nights are hard to fill.
My dreams have turned into nightmares.
Alone, again,
I turn to the Bible
And ask God to erase
all the memories that haunt me.
All the times together.
All the laughter.
All the love you gave me.
