Battlefield
by Sylvia L Bender

Rancid heatwaves,
lingering stillness,
a touch, not so soon forgotten.

Leaves from fallen trees
litter highways...
Love is a battlefield.

Wars and pain,
the courageous and brave
carry onward.

Some bruised and broken,
others still shiny and new...
flanked, fallen, and free.
