one perfect night
by Emma Bates Brennan

One perfect night,
not a hassle around,
us talking on the beach,
with no other sound.
you held me tight,
when i was cold,
you have a girlfriend,
or so I was told.
I've seen her at school,
so pretty was she;
how could I compete,
little ugly me.
you say I'm your next love,
but how long will that last?
a promise made to fade,
you'll forget me fast.
It was wonderfull while it lasted,
a night to never forget,
So, I'll forever keep with me,
the night that we met.

Dedicated to Dennis.
