These Eyes

By: Ekow Amissah

Heavy. That was some mornings ago
with me in the cold cold rain.
Bothered and battered and all my soul rent.

My eyes felt like the clouds.
All full to bursting
and how dim their lights were.

Then my eyes fell on your name,
And their lights were bright yellows, gorgeous pinks
and reds, luscious greens and deepest blue.

It couldn't be anything but high noon,
the way I felt. Like a DJ in element.
Happy, Boyish.

These eyes follow your sway - Hehehe!
All the way to the airport and up the motorway.
They've got time.

Accra is a hazy blur when you're on their mind.
And lost when they see you looking at them.
They they get all puffed up.

What a life of bliss these young ones live!

These eyes that can't grow old looking at you.
Can't get weary reading your name.
It's never half the fun with all the stars and divas.

They don't know how to get these eyes
to do the moonwalk
and flicker like MJ dancing to Thriller.
