Sad to Never Know this Heart

By: Sheila Kornelson

If I could give your love a form
It would be a mist; not truly clear
And if I should reach to touch it
It would surely disappear

Before my very eyes
I would watch it fade away
To leave me standing, lone and trembling
In its wake of cold dismay

I would stand there where your love had been
Till the cold chill broke my spirit
In case it should come back again
Then I could be there near it

But it would never hear my cries
Come, save me from despair
For the love I had reached to touch
Was never really there

It was only an illusion
(Though, it was told to me)
How sad to never know a heart
That loved you so tenderly
