'Twas the Kiss of Love

By: Jared Lee Dudgeon

‘Twas a kiss that awoke this heart of mine
from the sleep that death had brought to it.
For long before this I had chosen thine,
yet, love deemed this heart beneath unfit.

The date of love hath passed so long before,
like Summer’s warm touch on Winter’s bliss.
Yet, it lives through dormant dreams no more,
for love was shown through a simple kiss.

What a kiss it was to a wounded heart.
Though it lacked in time, it governed love.
For it’s power tore night and day apart,
to prove to thee that none reigns above.

It was, though, waking to the sun clad sea,
as the notes of song birds filled the air
and drops of nectar fulfilling thy plea,
‘twas the kiss of love that I must swear!
