Elusive Love

By: Connie A Barnes

If only you could see the love, the love I have in me.
My love is bottled up inside, my love won't set me free.
I oft-feel sad and lonely, my heart a shade of blue.
Why can't I just go on with life, a life without you?

The mistakes I made have not come without a price.
I gamble my life away with each roll of the wicked dice.
And I pay the toll every hour of each new day.
My love filled heart, my empty soul, my mind that's made of clay.

If only I could feel your love and knew it was a love for me.
I would break the bottle open and let my love be free.
I would find a path around the tolls, a path to preservation.
No longer would I feel the pain, the pain of condemnation.
