Awaiting Absolution

By: Timberly C Deville

When the cuts don't hurt anymore
And the bleeding has surpassed the pain.
When the lies you tell shift silently into truths
and I believe in you again,
this is where I'll be.

Too far from Heaven.
Too close to Hell.

Where everything is the color of jade
and we have surrendered our past to the gods of war.
A hint of peace belies the truth
that tangles on our tongues.
We are the reason we don't believe.
Faith casts too many shadows
and we are afraid of the dark.
