TAILLIGHTS

By: GARBANZO FOOTE

Your taillights glowed in the puddles
Which dotted the driveway.
I don't know how long
I stood there after you'd gone,
An hour, maybe two,
Staring in the direction you'd gone.
It wasn't real, it couldn't be real.
I stifled scream after scream
Until my throat ached.
When I could no longer bear the pain
Or the rain,
I turned back to the house
And wept the night away
Cradling your pillow.
