Defining our love

By: Sarah M Ames

Sitting in your truck, listening to a slow song,
Looking into each other’s eyes
and finding so much love... you have to look away,

Walking together and holding hands,
Slowly learning a song together on a keyboard,
Staring into the water together, in silence,

Placing Grass rings on our fingers,
and listening to your silly question,
"Are you my wife now"?

Letting me drive your truck
only to have me run into you,
or, should I say, you run into the truck.

A christmas present in my closet
pushed far back on the shelf.
I meant to give it to you... I did.

Listening to "Our song", which became, "our song",
while you faithfully listened to it on "repeat"- for hours at a time,
Then, playing it for me while we were together.

Nights spent crying from lonliness, because you were out.
Hours spent filled with jealousy on my part,
for girls who are with you, when I can’t be.

These are memories of us.
Take care of them... when you leave!
