LOVEBURN

By: Robert M. Topp

I wear her on my skin like a summer sunburn.
I think it will fade so it's no cause for concern.
I taste her like a shot of tequila and lime,
She's icy to the tongue and warm, at the same time.

We bit into the apple
Not knowing what it was.
'What ifs' still unanswered.
Nothing can become of us.

Letting go, she acquiesced, going where I led.
What 'ifs' float unanswered cartoon-like above our heads.
Think of stolen kisses and dancing in the dark.
Kisses made precious by larceny in my heart.

Her heart won't break
She won't give it away.
She can't live life on the edge,
She doesn't know the way.

The moon hung in the air like an unanswered e-mail.
Her lips were soft and they pressed me for more details.
My voice whispered in her ear, what little I knew.
She enveloped me and returned me... postage due.
