Silence

By: Noelle Darlene Bass

the sharpness of this penetrating pain
stifles my well known eloquence
choking as it sticks in my throat

if only i could speak it
if only i could spew it out

i scream but the scrambled sounds strengthen the pains stranglehold

i whisper but the wind wraps tighter this breath stealing pain

so pen in hand i sneak it out
spreading this shame across the page
soundlessly sharing this poisonous painful secret

breaking the

strangling
murderous
silence
