MY REPAYMENT

By: Pamela Jean Kimbrough

He was always there for me...
He listened to young dreams and schemes
wiping away some silly tears
from haunting shadows of youthful fears.
He loved me in such gentle ways
letting me grow, while watching me play.
How on earth does one repay...
for a love as pure as this?
He loved me completely from the heart
some rumored, he lusted in his mind.
When with him I felt like a princess
he was aged, humble and kind.
We never talked about his feelings
he always shared his thoughts.
For years his world seemed to orbit mine
and he told me once, "Without you, I am lost."
Yet, time just seemed to come and go
I turned around and he was old...
As he came to me one crisp fall day
with tear stains on his wrinkled face.
I held his hand as we went through storms
of the bitter winter days of cold
and it seems the further we walked
the deeper into hell we would go.
So many times I wanted to give up
but my love and strength saw me through.
Oh how I wanted to repay...
just a little of what he gave away.
Finally, we found a day in spring
and we danced naked in the rain
laughing as two children insane
as the rays of the sun pierced our souls.
I'll never forget how he touched my face
and asked, "How on earth does one repay...
for a love as pure as this?"
So, I told him... You know, we are truly blessed
for in each other we have known the best.
While angels have danced above
we have heard the coos of the white, winged doves
who soar much higher than our love.
The truth, my love, I would guess...
you have given me your wisdom
and I have offered you my youth.
This is all I have to repay.
This is the best I can do.
Other than forever..loving you!
