2 AM

By: Holli Christina Swafford

I am afraid;
relentless,
reckless,
pursuing.

My night is long.
Happy thoughts of heaven
interrupted.
He never came...
He promised.
He never wrote...
He swore.

He gave up
with words
that left me
open,
raw,
jagged,
for him to step on.

Look underneath;
There I am.
"It was never love." he said.
Love, lust, infatuation, need, want.
Everything is the same.
I wish I understood
but I don't.
Now I wait
patiently,
diligently,
undaunted,
for the angel
to scar me
like him...
