Nothing Changes

By: Jeremy J. Finch

On this Thanksgiving I can say with a smile,
I am thankful for many things in my life
Some of which have me joyful,
Some of which have made me grow.
But, still, nothing changes.
You are all an essential part of me:
Like pieces of a puzzle. Like the safety net-
That catches the falling acrobat.
Like the feel of a warm pillow,
Or perhaps more importantly,
The family that supports me through my troubles.
The ones who care when I don’t ask them to,
The ones who are always more patient with me
Than I am with my own self.
And still nothing ever changes.
You’re all the reason why I breathe
For you are the undying light behind my smile,
The ending hymn within my soul.
The reason why shed my tears;
The reason why I'm alive.
My feelings of love for you all
Shall never for a second, wilt
Like the beautiful flowers of May.
For this love is kind, gentle and precious,
And this kind of love,
Never changes.
