My mother and I

By: Jessica Nicole R

She brushes the hair from my eyes,
So I may see clearly and realize,
How love is cruel and hearts don't lie,
And all the other reasons why.

She says, "Your heart will break and the walls will fall,
but I will be there through it all."
She touches my hand and gives me a smile,
And with understanding says, "It will take a while."

I say, "Why does it take so long?"
"What will I do...oh, what did I do wrong?"
I fall into her arms and begin to cry,
"Mom, why did he have to say goodbye?"

"Oh, Jess...he loved you true!"
I could tell in the way he would took at you."
She sat a little closer and wiped away a tear,
"But sometimes love is a man's greatest fear"

Weeks went by and I tried to stay away from home,
Though I was out with my friends I still felt alone.
Outside the tears could not be found,
But I knew before long I would start to break down.

Feeling sad and a little strange,
I felt it was time to rearrange.
So I picked up the phone and dialed her work,
And softly cried, "Mom...I still feel the hurt!"

She rushed home from work to take me out,
And showed me what love is really about,
Because a mother's smile and tender care
Is better than any mans love, anywhere.

Willing to sit and talk awhile,
And hide the pain behind a smile.
Easing the pains of unwanted goodbyes,
Cause nothing is worse than seeing her little girl cry.

So here's to a mother who is always there,
And without her I would be nowhere,
She lends me her shoulder when I need to cry.
A loving connection... My mother and I!!!
