Emptiness

By: Harrison Elliot

Without a body for my heart,
Or heart to store inside,
I sat there looking ripped apart,
My soul was open wide.

To fill the gaping void,
Meant stealing from within,
And now I fear the chastisement,
Of many unseen sins.

I step into oblivion,
The sunlight runs away.
My shadow's eyes get heavy,
And sleep 'til the next day.

I step into another realm,
To regions of my soul,
And somewhere there I take the helm,
And try to fill the hole.

I step deep into nothing,
It takes me by the arm,
Trying to hold onto something,
I know I won't be harmed.

I step into nonentity,
My answer won't be there.
Experience has taught me,
It is not anywhere.

That's why I am not looking,
In hopes of finding life,
But instead of finding...
I land in pools of strife.

So I step into obscurity,
Where all emptiness roams,
Somehow it's comfort in this world,
And I make myself a home.
