If we didn't know night
Then we wouldn't know day
If we never got lost
Who would show us the way
If life was all sunshine
And we never knew rain
Then how could we know
The freedom from pain
If we never knew sadness
But only knew bliss
Then most of the love
In our lives we would miss
If we hadn't felt lonely
And close to the end
Then how could we know
The joy of a friend
If we didn't stumble
And sometimes fall
We wouldn't know much
About life at all
