Ons and Offs
by Tears Of Pepper

I regret telling you,
The first time I started loving you to the core.
Since then, you have been acting weird,
Like you don't want me to love you,
Like me loving you is a complete bore.

Even though you thought I might stop,
I needed some time to think it through.
I loved your smile,
And the way you would tell me that you loved me,
Even though it was rare,
Or even the way you sometimes would stare.

But you also say things that hurt,
Things that make me think you don't dare to tell me
The reason you stare isn't because you care,
But because you are looking me over,
Seeing if I'm a four leaf clover.

Then I thought it through.
I was just waiting for you to tell me you love me,
Then I would love you back,
Only if you were to tell me that we share
Many of the same qualities.

But it was then you broke my heart,
And with rage I would roar.
You called me something that hurt,
But now I realize it made me love you even more.

I went home that night and cried a million tears,
And when I decided to return to just being your friend,
You told me you were sorry,
You told me with the sweetest smile,
And your sincere look.
It was your look that said
I had to embrace you one last time,
So I held you tight without a worry.

Unfortunately, this wasn't smart.
I love you again now,
But you love me as a friend and no more.
And still I regret telling you,
The first time I started loving you to the core.
