The Key
by Brittney Renee W.

Here I sit wondering what you're doing
and think to myself, just who am I fooling?
Because deep down inside I know the truth.
I lost my ignorance, when I lost my youth.
Sometimes I wish I believed all your lies,
then I wouldn't have to shut away
these old forbidden cries.
You didn't hear all the things I tried to say,
when I spoke of our love, you looked the other way.
Maybe this pain wouldn't be so intense
I try to work through it,
but it just doesn't make sense.
If you could be so kind, as to give me the key
that unlocks your heart, it would be easier on me.
I can understand how this can be hard on you,
but think about my heart before you say we're through.
If you would just talk to me, we could compromise
we could start all over,
and dry the tears from our eyes.
