If I didn't love you
by Steven Mather
If I didn't love you:
I wouldn't feel such agony
each time you walk away.
I wouldn't hear your laughter,
whenever I see children play.
I wouldn't care who you are with
or how you spend each hour.
I wouldn't see your lovely face,
in every summer flower;
if I didn't love you.
If I didn't love you:
I wouldn't worry endlessly,
should I not hear from you.
I wouldn't feel profound relief
when you come into view.
I wouldn't harbour desperate grief
that one day our love might end
It wouldn't matter that my life
upon your whim depends;
if I didn't love you.
If I didn't love you:
I wouldn't mind if you should choose
to steer away from me.
I wouldn't feel your rhythm
in the syncopation of the sea.
I wouldn't count each second
that we remain apart
I wouldn't feel the ecstasy
that dwells here in my heart;
if I didn't love you.
