Just A Dream
by Aaron Michael Smith
It was a perfect day
The kind of day you only imagine
With the bright sun above
Towering billowy clouds
And a warm breeze which brings in
The distinct smell of a summer day
I was walking along a path
Which led deep into the woods
The breeze in my hair
The songs from birds above
And the rustling of leaves
Was all that I heard
I noticed you on top of a hill
Sitting underneath a great oak tree
Sitting alone with no one by your side
As I approached you, you looked up
With your deep brown eyes and warm smile
You welcomed me into your world that day
We strolled all day and into the night
Sharing with each other our hopes and dreams
My perfect match, the one I've searched for
That night we lay under a blanket of stars
Holding each other, nothing could be heard
But breathing, only breathing?
All I heard was my breathing
The alarm clock on the shelf
And the rain pounding on the window sill
I was alone in my bed; it was only a dream
I should have known something so perfect
Could only be a dream; it was only a dream
