Ode to Deborah
by Edward John White
"I forever love you,"
Is what I want to say.
Our years are stored inside my heart,
Until its dying day.
Your sleepy head in morning,
Your favourite personal place,
Those puppy eyes that glisten wide,
A smile that lights your face...
The way you touch my hair,
The things you sometimes say,
The patter of your Angel steps,
Your laughter every day...
Whenever we are far apart,
I sometimes weep at night.
It's just as hard to tell you this,
As it is to say, "Goodnight."
For patient thoughts and feelings,
And wounds we need to tend,
For never losing faith in me,
And being my greatest friend...
When sadness comes to hurt you,
In words of men and psalms,
Remember there's a place for you,
Awaiting in my arms.
