How Can I Tell You
by   Wildheart

how can i tell you
it's over between us
when my heart still
calls out your name?

how can i tell my heart
to unlove you
when i see your face
every time i close my eyes,
     hear your voice
every time i listen to the sound of the wind,
     and feel your touch
every time i think of you?

how can i stop
this foolish heart
from hoping
you are the one?

        you, yourself, have declared
         "someday, this will be over."
         that someday is now.
         how do i tell you
         i'd rather walk away now
         than continue to delude myself
thinking there is tomorrow for us?
         you, yourself, have said
         there's none.

how do i tell you
i am leaving because
i have loved you
when i shouldn't?
