Nothing Has Changed
by John David Phillips

Mother...

As a child, I needed your comfort...
 I still need it.

As a child, I longed for your touch...
 I am still longing.

As a child, you taught me new things...
 I am still learning.

As a child, you scolded me when I did wrong...
 I am still doing wrong.

As a child, you told me I could do better...
 I am still trying.

As a child, I needed you...
 I am still in need.

As a child, you gave me strength...
I am still in need of your strength.

As a child, I needed the comfort of your arms around me...
 I still need your comfort.

As a child, you took away my fear...
 I am still afraid.

As a child, I cried when you were gone...
 I will still cry.

Mother...
