Neverending Cycle
by Suzanne Sablotny
I say, "you're no good"
while trying to believe it's true.
Then you call me again
right out of the blue
You say that you love me
and you miss me so much
But I've got to be careful
that my heart you don't touch
I try so hard
not to let you back in
But when you talk
it starts over again
I think it's possible
that we'll work things out
You assure me we will
without any doubt
So I took you back
hoping for the best
But I should have known,
you were just like the rest
I thought you had changed
I guess I was wrong
I should have known
it wouldn't last long
You treat me the same
as you always did
You tell me what to do
just like a little kid
I won't run your life
but you can't run mine
Why did I think
it would be different this time?
I set myself up
for this lie once more
I tried to ignore
what I knew was in store
But what's done is done
- can't change things now
All that's left
is to forget it somehow
As hard as it is
to let you go
I know you'll be back,
this I know
You always return
as sure as the stars in the sky
This cycle will continue
until the day that I die
