THAT WAS YESTERDAY
by M. J. Steele

Why do you come to me now?
You left me so long ago.
I would have gone with you then,
If only you had wanted it so.

I've struggled just to heal my heart,
Let's not go that way once more.
Perhaps I could learn to love you again,
But not as I did before.

I haven't forgotten the closeness we shared,
The passion, the laughter and dreams.
But you took those with you when you went away
And left me nothing- it seems.

Still, grief fades and our hearts need love,
I now share my dreams with someone dear.
And I will not take them from him
Just because you are here.

Don't try to bring back yesterday,
You have been out of my life too long.
We cannot recapture "April Love"
When it's time for "September Song."
