Stay Awhile
by Robert Ray Walker

Raindrops beat down on an old tin roof
Jaybirds sing in the morning sky
The springtime has a breeze in the trees
A baby softly sighs....

All these things I listen to
They always make me smile
I'd listen to my heart again
If you would stay awhile

Lightning crashes with the summer's rain
A whistle blows on a little toy train
"Mommy, I love you"... "Daddy, lets play"
If a rose could talk.. What would it say?

Of all these things I've ever heard
None could make me smile
Like the sound of my heart of hearts
Saying to you... "Would you stay awhile"

Some live in a quiet world
Others choose... not to hear what is said
My heart is singing... hear it ringing
I'll follow where it's led

The years have past, so many with you
I still believe the sound was true
The sound of my heart... it made me smile
You stayed forever... forever... awhile.
