In Your Memory
by Jeremy J. Finch
What is it like to look through such tainted eyes?
Being used to darkness it must be a hard to see light.
For how can you persist in your awkward way?
Drudging along like a steed whose hooves are worn.
And why is it that you have so much hope
In the most despondent of situations?
And where is your expected cynicism?
Nowhere, only hidden by your lovely smile.
Though this unfortunate deed that you endure,
You never seem to lose your light for life;
That light that engenders the hope of humanity,
That light prudently given by Nature.
You taught me the true meaning of life
The true meaning of struggle:
"To shine where there is no light,
To pave your own path towards happiness,
And to live and do it so well,
That others, have no choice to follow."
And tears painfully falling upon losing you my dear,
Not only the mere absence of my friend,
But the extinguishing of that little candle
That lies as the very essence within my soul.
