Returning
by Robert Louis Arehart

Bright sun thru' sparkling raindrops
Still heat on a damp afternoon.
The whisper of wind in the treetops
On a night when the light is the moon.

Radiant blooms in profusion
   add color and brightness galore
and the long walk over valley and hill
turns thoughts to the welcome in store.

This welcome, my love will be joy, and the peace
of knowing, at last, I am home
and the warmth from your love that I know cannot cease
   would enrapture the heavens above.

Mere mortal I am but, likeness there stops
no mortal could ever be me...
For in this small span of life here with you
I'm as ageless as yon redwood tree.
