Early Mourning
by Rebecca Hazel Clegg
The rain pours down and numbs my skin.
The air is cold, I can't feel it anymore.
I am no longer in my body.
I can feel you in my soul,
I can see you in my memories,
I can hold you in my dreams.
You are gone but not forgotten,
AS LONG AS I LIVE, YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!
I can hear your voice in the soft breezes caressing my face.
In the silence around me,
You are telling me you love me,
All I can do is weep.
I am the only one of us
Who can feel pain now,
I stare at the earth a final time, and wonder.
Can a love so pure immersed in such cold hard clay
Cleanse us all from a lifetime of guilt...
No.
My heart aches because I know it is true
My love, all my grief cannot bring you back,
All my tears just drown the cries of my broken heart.
